Twitter inspires CBS sitcom

Justin Halpern went from moving back home with his parents to co-executive producing a sitcom on CBS in a matter of three months. How?

Twitter.

After knocking on Mom and Dad’s door on Aug. 3, the 29-year-old parlayed his father’s rude, obscene comments into a mini-empire. After only 73 tweets, “S*** My Dad Says” entertains more than 700,000 followers, and now CBS is following. The plan is to produce a sitcom pilot based on the 73-year-old’s comical sayings, with “Will & Grace” creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick producing. Halpern sold “S*** My Dad Says” as a book to Harper Collins last month.

The comedy’s title will change if it gets on the air.

Some of his father’s interesting dialog:

“I hate paying bills… Son, don’t say “me too.” I didn’t say that looking to relate to you. I said it instead of “go away.”
“Remember how you used to make fun of me for being bald? No, I’m not gonna make a joke. I’ll let your mirror do that.”
“Oh please, you practically invented lazy. People should have to call you and ask for the rights to lazy before they use it.”

“S*** My Dad Says” isn’t the only internet sensation getting main-stream attention. In September, FOX optioned the rights to create a multi-camera comedy based on popular website TextsFromLastNight.com
