Uncharted 2 hits stores tomorrow. That means anyone with a PlayStation 3 will either be waiting in front of their local GameStop’s at midnight tonight or hitting Best Buy tomorrow. Now yes, we are a film-oriented site but for those who have an Xbox 360 or are uninterested in video gaming (shame on you,) the Uncharted series essentially takes what made the first three Indiana Jones films so fun and ramps up the action to create something far more interesting and compelling that that monstrosity Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Basically, this is THE reason to own the system apart from having a Blu-ray player.
A week ago, Sony rented out four theaters across the country and allowed a select few (around fifty if I’m not mistaken) to achieve tickets and actually come play the game on the silver screen. Not only were these lucky S.O.B.’s allowed to partake in experiencing this, Naughty Dog creative director Amy Hennig announced that the attendees would be taking home copies of the game. Yes, an entire eight days before it’s released to the masses.
I’ve spent some time with the recent multiplayer demo which at first just seemed like a cheap gimmick to keep the game spinning in consoles. Then I actually played it and found it to be an entire game within itself. The game plays just like the first Uncharted (which is a perfect thing) with minor tweaks to make the controls tweaks that make the game play much better. The character models are also a lot more fluid and not as clunky like they were in the first game, with also a bit more detail to the environments. Mutliplayer as mentioned is no slouch, featuring modes like Team Deathmatch, Co-op (amazing), Plunder, Elimination, and Gold Rush, which is essentially Horde mode with an objective. You can also customize your character’s appearance, give them attributes, and buy new ones as you level up. Yes, the developers went the distance and have proven this will be a killer app that the PS3 has desperately been needing.
The game releases tomorrow so we can all jump for joy then, but for now, here are some photos and a video from the event itself and of the very, very limited Fortune Hunter Edition of the game. Enjoy:
