Disney/Pixar’s Up no long remains supreme in its second weekend at the box office as it gets toppled over by the Todd Phillips directed comedy, The Hangover. Hurdling over it by barely under a million, the families that came in droves for Disney did not help enough to get those into the Vegas backdrop film away from theaters. The Hangover caught the attention of many being able to wrangle up 44.9 million, bringing us some good raunchy comedy back into the cinema.
Land of the Lost, the Will Ferrell starring vehicle based off of a 1970’s series of the same name, did not live up to the expectations box office wise, reaching into third with 18.8 million. Going on with its weekend with mainly bad word of mouth did not help its case in reaching out for more viewers. With its random and strange layout, this film was hard to make appealing to audiences in the first place.
Last on the list is My Life In Ruins, the Nia Vardalos starring film from the folks at Fox Searchlight. Barely scraping away 3 million, this Greece set film still has yet to catch the attention of an even wider audience to at least make back its 17 million budget back. Despite all of that, the range of films coming out during this summertime is expanding, giving audiences a wider selection of flicks to check out.
