Slash Film is reporting that Viggo Mortensen has been asked to play Edgar Allen Poe in Sylvester Stallone’s new biopic, imaginatively named Poe.
This to me isn’t the big news. The absolutely, monstrously-huge, can’t-wrap-my-head-around-it, biggest news of all time is…the biopic is going to be directed and written by Sly himself. Sly is going to write a biopic of one of America’s most beloved and articulate poets. Sly.
Damn.
Let’s hope he chooses to use the poet’s own words…

Being a BIG FAN of Edgar Allen Poe, I fear that this movie will be dreadful, and I, like Poe, may then be destined to wander the streets of Baltimore in a drunken haze until I succumb to deaths hand.
