Shall we play a game?
As a punk-ass kid, I was completely devoted to two movies: 83′s Wargames and 92′s Sneakers. Fabulous content that focused on tech goodness and strong screenplays were what made those movies fantastic. Sadly, the film’s writers, Walter Parkes and David DiGilio, have only written those two movies. Until now.
Parkes and DiGilio will adapt Daniel Suarez’s upcoming “techno thriller” novel Daemon for Paramount. The book is due out this January and is expected to spawn a sequel and, potentially, a viable and profitable series.
The story is set on an iconic game designer who set up a program to fight humanity. Tones of Cronenberg’s eXistenZ? Maybe but if the film carries even a smidgen of the goodness that is Wargames and Sneakers, Daemon will be a certain hit.
