Warner Bros. Goes from Penguins to Peacocks

peacockWarner Bros. Studios saw success with 2006′s animated film Happy Feet, about a tap-dancing penguin. A year later, Sony Pictures Animation did decently well with another penguin flick, Surf’s Up.

It’s been a couple of years since those films, but it seems as though animators are going to see if they can see the same success with movies focused on other types of birds.

Fox Animation has the movie Rio, about a macaw, in the works, and Warner Bros. Studios recently announced they’re in negotiations to gain the rights to a movie about a peacock.

This move comes at a time when the box office is uncertain, with everything from high-budget comedies to low-budget horror films being number one over the last month, but the draw of animated films remains pretty consistent.

No storyline for the film has been revealed, but it was written by Austin Winsberg and Heath Corson, and will be produced by Underground Management.

Warner Bros. also has a Happy Feet sequel in development.
