Warner Bros. Reveals a Bit More of the Wild Things

wherethewildthingsareThe first trailer for Where the Wild Things Are, Spike Jonze’s take on Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s book, was a thing of transcendent beauty. Scored to Arcade Fire’s “Wake Up” and only sparsely peppered with dialogue, the trailer hinted at a film of kinetic, childish wonder.

The new trailer for the film, which is currently being paired in theaters with G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, is essentially an expanded version of the first trailer’s material.

With more dialogue, a suggestion of more domestic troubles in lead character Max’s home, and a glimpse of several of the Wild Things in their full glory, Warner Bros. once again suggests that Jonze’s film will be a rare gem of a family film. Where the Wild Things Are is shaping up to be a film that doesn’t pander, and straddles a fine line between adult themes and exuberant energy.

Check out the new trailer below, keeping an eye out for performances by newcomer Max Records, Catherine Keener, James Gandolfini, Catherine O’Hara and Paul Dano. Let us know what you think!

When I saw this trailer before the Half Blooded Prince, something inside me said “This…this is the movie I have been waiting for.”

It could possbily be due, though, to hearing Arcade Fire (big fan here) in the trailer.

    • They could score a trip to the grocery store with Arcade Fire and it would seem like the most epic endeavour one could attempt.

However, I have every confidence that this film will be a fantastic family film. It seems mature in all the right ways, and childish in all the right ones as well.

I loved the book, Where the Wild Things Are … my son would read it over and over again when he was little. :) Looking forward to the movie!
