Written by Nathan | Posted January 3, 2009 – 2:38 am Top 10 Television Shows of 2008

2008 can be said to be a year plagued by tragedy, disappointment and shame. Just like at the movies, the small screen in general didn’t exactly shine this year. Very few movies could even be considered watchable and many shows…

Weekend Box Office Report
Written by Gillman on November 19, 2007 – 10:06 am

Welcome to the first of my Weekend Box Office Reports. The waxy looking, expressionless humans of “Beowulf” have slain yet another out of control beast in the hideously annoying Jerry Seinfeld vehicle “Bee Movie”.

1 Beowulf - $28,100,000
2 Bee Movie - $14,300,000
3 American Gangster - $13,218,000
4 Fred Claus - $12,000,000
5 Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium - $10,025,000
6 Dan in Real Life - $4,511,000
7 No Country for Old Men - $3,098,000
8 Lions for Lambs - $2,904,000
9 Saw IV - $2,330,000
10 Love in the Time of Cholera - $1,915,000

Ok, I’ve got to say that in my weekly watching of UFC two things were HEAVILY promoted, “Beowulf” and a new video game called “Assassins Creed” (at least I’m pretty sure that’s what it’s called, I have Tivo and fast-forward through nearly every commercial). The thing that struck me so much was that the video game looked worlds better than “Beowulf”. And I don’t mean that it looked like it had a better story, it looked better, far more realistic and natural. At first I thought it was an ad for something live action. “Assassins Creed” made “Beowulf” look like “Clutch Cargo” (or “South Park for you children out there). There is simply no excuse for Hollywood turning out poor quality like that. Whether the script and performances are great or not I really hope “Beowulf” falls like W’s approval rating. Maybe then Hollywood will stop making this motion capture garbage and either go with full animation or live action. Hell even an amalgam like “300″ works better than this. There is just no point or reason to do it. At least the animators of “Beowulf” had the common decency to do two things for us. 1) They made Angelina Jolie look exactly like herself (even though they covered her up). 2) They made Ray Winstone (Beowulf) look like “Stone Cold” Steve Austin rather than how he really looks:

“Bee Movie” and “American Gangster” both fell a little more than was probably expected (with drops of 44 and 45% respectively), but “Fred Claus” had a more respectable stay and only dropped 35% (it’s still doing pretty shitty though).

“Mr. Magorium’s Annoying Piece of Shit” opened at number 5, ouch and “30 Days of Night” fell out of the top ten. the Cohen Brother’s latest “No Country for Old Men” however is enjoying a great limited run and managed the number 7 slot despite being shown on only 148 theaters nationwide.

Oh yeah, and Tom Cruise’s movie “Lions for Lambs” is tanking!
