Will Ferrell has officially signed on to star in Everything Must Go, the feature debut from commercial director Dan Rush, who will write and direct. Filming will begin in Spring of next year.
By a long shot, this is the least expensive project that Ferrell has been a part of in quite some time — Rush’s film is budgeted at a paltry $10 million, while Land of the Lost cost ten times that amount and did nothing for the actor’s career. Farrell is obviously looking for a Stranger Than Fiction-esque return to more personal films, which I think is good for him.
Everything Must Go, based on a Raymond Carver story, is about a man (Ferrell) “who loses his job and gets locked out of the house by his wife. She deposits his belongings on the front lawn, and he spends the next four days trying to sell his possessions.” Seeing as how this is Rush’s first attempt at a screenplay, it must have enough quality to have draw the eyes of Ferrell and some other independent film players.
Producer Marty Bowen said of Ferrell’s casting:
“Will is one of the best at making an audience sympathize with a character’s ordeal, and the blending and comedy in this script will show a side of him that we haven’t really seen before.”
I’m eager to see Ferrell stretch his range, as the last couple films he’s made have wasted his talent. More news on Everything Must Go as the film develops on AtomicPopcorn.net!
