Will Smith Attached to Hurricane Katrina Movie

Still fresh.
Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment and Sony Pictures will produce a Hurricane Katrina movie through the eyes of disaster survivor John Keller who will be played by Smith. Keller is an ex-Marine who helped rescue 244 people in New Orleans after their building became flooded with 11′ of water.
John Lee Hancock (The Rookie) is attached to direct and adapt the story for film. He’s currently working on The Blind Side with Sandra Bullock.
Will Smith was last seen in 2008’s Seven Pounds and is rumored to portray a monster-fighting child psychologist in Monster Hunter.
Will Smith playing a Good Samaritan is definitely his niche and the un-named Katrina project will provide great fodder for his fans. Box office success is likely, though the role is far from a stretch for the talented actor who leans towards roles that require him to portray the “unlikely and grumpy” hero.
