World’s Greatest Dad — Behind the Scenes Featurette

Bobcat Goldthwait’s World’s Greatest Dad earned acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival for its irreverent tone, unusually dark humor and a reportedly fantastic performance by comedian Robin Williams. While the film has all the makings of an underground success, it will hopefully be a landmark performance for Williams, whose talent has recently been undermined by shallow roles in films such as RV and License to Wed.

Goldthwait has released a behind the scenes featurette that certainly indicates the tone of the film, if not its substance: the director touches on Williams’ nudity on film, his history of friendship with the comedic actor, and intersperses a few moments from the film itself. If this is any illustration of the content of the movie, we’re in for something morally askew.

Check out the featurette below, keeping in mind that this is NSFW:

World’s Greatest Dad centers around Williams’ character “Lance Clayton, a man who has learned to settle. He dreamed of being a rich and famous writer, but has only managed to make it as a high school poetry teacher. His only son Kyle (Daryl Sabara) is an insufferable jackass who won’t give his father the time of day. He is dating Claire (Alexie Gilmore), the school’s adorable art teacher, but she doesn’t want to get serious – or even acknowledge publicly that they are dating.

Then, in the wake of a freak accident, Lance suffers the worst tragedy and greatest opportunity of his life. He is suddenly faced with the possibility of all the fame, fortune and popularity he ever dreamed of, if he can only live with the knowledge of how he got there.”

The film is scheduled to be released on August 21st, 2009. View the trailer below.
