Zombieland Writers Still Drooling Over Venom

416074-We_Are_Venom_by_Marauder6272_largeA film based on Spiderman’s mirror nemesis Venom (seen and poorly depicted in Spiderman 3) is still in the works, alongside the progress being made on Spiderman 4.

Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (also responsible for The Joe Schmo Show) talked to SciFi Wire on Friday about the progress being made on Venom. “We’ve written two drafts of Venom, and the studio has it, and they’re pushing forward in whatever ways they push forward,” said Wernick. However, it’s currently unknown when the film will go into production — before or after Sam Raimi’s Spiderman 4?

I believe it’s likely that Venom will start being produced after the fourth entry of the series — it seems to be a good idea to distance the series from the original appearance of Venom in the third film before creating a spin-off for the character.

While they could make an effort to establish Venom further in Spiderman 4, overcrowdedness was the downfall of the third film. In my opinion, Sony should scrap Topher Grace’s depiction of the character and try for something darker and different. What do you think? Let us know in the comments!
